In the Bleak: A Blessing for Joy & Despair

May you who feel despair,
Find joy in sorrow’s midst.
May you find warmth in the darkness,
And may your spirit hold light.

Joy is not all merriment and cheer,
But it is heavy, too.

Joy is heavy, too.

It can weave through your bones,
Hold you to earth when your world falls apart.
It can breathe through your lungs,
Gift you hope when your breath falls short.
It can course through your veins,
Give you life as your soul bleeds out.

Joy can withstand your greatest pain.
It will not leave at the first glimpse of sorrow,
But it will stay all the way through.

May Joy stay you all the way through.
