The Manifesto β’
The Human Space exists to explore the human experience of being divinely created and earthly bound, sojourning with others to find the steadiness of God in the midst of life's mysteries.
So, welcome to the sojourn.
And as you do that, be reminded:
all are welcome here.
All certain, and all unsure.
All deconstructing, and all devout.
All left, and all right.
All races, and all cultures.
All sexualities, and all genders.
All abilities, and all presentations of humanity.
Stay a while.
Lean back, and find a deep breath as you look around and see the myriad people that surround you on this human journey.
We cannot explore what it means to be human without acknowledging the diverse experiences of the human race.
These experiences are often different from my own and different from yours. Rather than leading from what we know (or think we know), we lead from what we do not know. We choose curiosity over certainty, and compassion over control.
A space of welcome is beautiful at face value, and hard at best.
Let it be known that all will still be welcome here, even when discord arises.
When conflicting opinions are shared. When hurts are aired. When words fall short.
When the temptation is to divide, we will unify with grace and humility under the banner of shared humanity. However, comments that attack others, are hurtful in nature, and do not lead from a stance of curiosity and compassion may be deleted as they do not align with the values of The Human Space.
We will always seek to protect and empower the vulnerable.
Beautiful, complicated, limited humanity. Beautiful, mysterious, unlimited God.
As we participate in The Human Space through reading, commenting, and engaging with others, let us acknowledge Imago Dei, the beautiful image of God that resides in each and every individual.
May we place our hands on our hearts and say βthe humanity in me sees the humanity in you.β
